Dates, priority, status and reminders
Give a task a due date and time, a priority, a flag, a repeat and a status — and get reminded when it is due.
A task has two places where you change it: its quick ⓘ panel, the fast way to change a date, and its full page, with everything about it in one place.
Open a task's page
Click or tap the arrow-out-of-a-square button on the task's card. In the Tasks list you can also choose Open Task from a task's context menu.
The task opens in its own window: the task on the left and its activity on the right. Drag the divider between them to change their widths; the window remembers its size and place.
The task's half is a page. At the top, a breadcrumb shows the notebook and note the task is in — click it to move the task to another note. Below the name, each detail is a label and a value. A detail that is not set says so in its own words: the due date shows No Due Date, Repeat shows Never and Priority shows None. Urgent and Flag are switches. Urgent and Repeat appear once the task has a due date. Delete is the red trash button at the bottom of the page.
The task opens full screen, with its details on the left and its activity on the right.
The task opens full screen. Switch between Details and Activity at the top.
The page saves as you type, so closing it never loses anything. A comment you have typed but not yet sent is filed when you close the page.
Write a description
On the task's page, the description takes the same Markdown as a note, converted as you type: **bold**, *italic*, # for a heading, - for a bulleted list and 1. for a numbered list. Return continues a list, and a second Return on an empty item leaves it. Tab indents a list item and ⇧Tab brings it back out. Select some words for a small bar with bold and italic, or press ⌘B or ⌘I. The field grows as you write.
Type the description in the task's form.
Set a due date and time
In the task's panel, turn on Date to pick a day, and Time to pick an hour. Each picker opens right underneath its switch. Tapping or clicking outside the panel keeps what you set.
The date is one line until you click it: when the task is due, with what else is set under it (such as Urgent or Every Week) or an offer to add an alert or a repeat. Click the line to show the date, time, Urgent and Repeat rows. A task that is urgent or repeats opens with those rows showing, so nothing set is hidden.
On the task's page, the date rows open the same Date & Time panel.
A task with a date but no time is an all-day task. It is not late at one minute past midnight, and it reminds you at 9:00.
Priority, flag and repeat
Set them in the same panel or on the task's page. The priority is High, Medium, Low or None. Each one you set shows as a colored chip on the task's card.
Set a task's status
A task is open or done — and it can also be in a state of your own, such as Waiting for Documents or With the Lawyer. Choose it in the Status row on the task's page.
To change the list of statuses, go to Settings ▸ Tasks ▸ Statuses. Your library starts with Open and Done. Each status has a name, a color and one switch: whether being in it means the task is finished. Ticking a task's circle puts it into a finishing status, and unticking it puts it back into an unfinished one. Drag statuses to reorder them.
Reminders
A task reminds you when it is due, even when NotaBene is closed — and on every device, not only the one where you made it. Change the date on one device and the reminder moves on the others; tick the task off or delete it, and the reminder is taken back everywhere.
You can also set a reminder on a whole note, in the note's Info panel. It rings on all your devices too, follows changes to its time or the note's title, and is taken back when you clear it or move the note to the Trash. A note restored from the Trash gets its reminder back.
A reminder whose task or note no longer exists is removed when the app opens, so you are never reminded about something you cannot find.
