Templates
Save a note whose shape you use again and again — a meeting, a weekly review — and start new notes from it.
Templates are kept in the sidebar's Templates row. You open and edit a template like any other note.
Save a note as a template
- Open the note's context menu, or the editor's Info panel. On the Mac you can also use the File menu.
- Choose Save as Template.
- Give the template a name.
The template is a separate copy: changing the note afterwards leaves the template as it was.
Make a blank template
Select Templates in the sidebar and press ⌘N.
Select Templates in the sidebar. The button at the top of the column shows the template symbol; open its menu and choose New Template.
Open Templates and touch and hold the circle at the bottom.
Start a note from a template
Right-click the blue new-note button at the top of the sidebar and choose a template, or choose File ▸ New Note from Template.
Touch and hold the blue new-note button at the top of the sidebar and choose a template. In the Templates list, the button at the top of the column offers templates too.
In a note list, touch and hold the blue circle at the bottom and choose a template. In the Templates list, just tap the circle.
You can also choose New Note from Template in a template's own menu.
The new note is filed in the notebook you are looking at. It gets the template's title, tags, pictures, tables and tasks — but not its comments.
More ways to reach a template
- Shortcuts in the sidebar — add a template from its context menu in the Templates list. On the iPhone and iPad, swipe right on it (unless you've rearranged the swipes in Settings ▸ Swipe). Choosing the shortcut opens the template in the editor.
- The Shortcuts app — the New Note from Template action makes a note from a template and hands the note on to the next action.
