Save from other apps and the web
Send text, files, pictures and web pages to NotaBene from any app with the Share button.
Share from another app
- In any app, choose Share, then NotaBene.
- Pick the notebook and tags for the new note.
- Save.
The panel then shows Saved to NotaBene, with what you sent and the notebook it went to, and closes by itself. The note appears in your list when NotaBene opens.
Text that is not a link arrives as an ordinary note with that text in it. A screenshot shared from the screenshot editor keeps its full name and goes in as a picture, which the note list shows on the note's card.
Clip a web page
- In Safari, choose Share, then NotaBene.
- Choose how much of the page to keep — Article, Text only, Selection or Bookmark.
- Pick the notebook and save.
A PDF open in Safari is saved as the PDF itself: the panel shows its name, and NotaBene downloads it and attaches it to the new note. If it can't be downloaded — a PDF behind a login, for example — the note keeps its link instead. While a large PDF downloads, the panel shows how much has arrived; Cancel stops it.
The four ways to keep a page:
- Article — the readable body of the page: headings, paragraphs, lists, quotes, tables, links, and its pictures.
- Text only — the same, without the pictures.
- Selection — only what you selected on the page. It is offered when something is selected.
- Bookmark — the title, the link and the first sentences.
Before you save, the panel shows what you will get: the title the note will have, where it is from, how many words and pictures are coming, roughly how long it takes to read, and its first lines. A page that cannot be read as an article says Bookmark there, and is kept as a bookmark.
NotaBene remembers your choice for next time. The note is titled with the article's title and begins with the link it came from. Pictures — up to twenty — are added the next time NotaBene runs, shrunk to your Picture size setting in Settings ▸ Editor ▸ Pictures.
A clip becomes a note as soon as you save it, even when NotaBene is not the app in front.
The first time, turn NotaBene on in System Settings ▸ Login Items & Extensions ▸ Sharing.
On the Mac, the panel reads the page itself, so it shows Reading the page… for a moment before the preview. This also works for a page shared from an app other than Safari.
The panel has your remark at the top, then what will be kept, then the notebook, with Cancel and Save in the corner. Press Escape to cancel, or ⌘Return to save.
