Spotlight

Find your notes from outside NotaBene, with the system's own search.

Press ⌘Space and type. Spotlight finds your notes by their titles and by anything in them — a word from the middle of a note, or from inside a PDF, a picture's text, a Word or Excel file or a scan attached to it.

Search from the Home Screen. The system's search offers your notes by their titles. To find a word inside a note or its attachments, use the search in NotaBene, which searches everything. Spotlight may also show a Search in app row that hands what you typed straight to NotaBene's own search, and the Search Notes shortcut is another way in — see Siri, Shortcuts and buttons.

Open a result, and the note opens on the word you searched for, with the find bar already carrying it. Use the arrows in the find bar, or ⌘G, to go to the next match — see Find in a note or a PDF.

Among your notes, pinned ones and recently edited ones come first. Notes in the Trash and templates are not offered.

Keeping the index up to date

Each device keeps its own index of your notes. A note is added as soon as it reaches the device — a note written on your Mac can be found on your iPhone once it has synced there, without opening it first.

Settings ▸ Search shows how many notes this device has in its index, and can build the index again.
